Kim McCraw and Luc Dery named 2017 CMPA Indiescreen Award Winners
TORONTO, Sept 11, 2017 : The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) today announced the winners of the 2017 Indiescreen Awards in an afternoon ceremony that marked the opening of the 42nd annual Toronto International Film Festival.
•Kristy Neville and Matt Code (Wildling Pictures) received the CMPA Indiescreen Award in the Emerging Producer category, recognizing their significant early-career accomplishments and the bright prospects that lie ahead.
"The hard work, passion and innovation demonstrated by Kim and Luc, and the bold new ideas put forward by Kristy and Matt illustrate that Canada continues to have an impressive impact on the world of film," said Reynolds Mastin, President and CEO, CMPA. "I'm thrilled to be recognizing their accomplishments as independent producers today."
Kim McCraw and Luc Dery are the team behind such critically-acclaimed films as the Oscar-nominated Incendies (2010) and Monsieur Lazhar (2011). Together, they've produced more than 15 feature films. Their latest, A Worthy Companion, will debut in this year's Discovery Program at TIFF. Starring Evan Rachel Wood and Sarah Julia Stone, the film marks the feature debut for directors Carlos and Jason Sanchez. This is Dery's second recognition from the CMPA; in 2006 he was the recipient of the first-ever CMPA Indiescreen Award (previously called the CMPA Feature Film Producer Awards).
Kristy Neville and Matt Code have, individually and together, produced a number of acclaimed short films that have premiered at major festivals including TIFF, Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca and Hot Docs. Mary Goes Round is the pair's first feature film. It was written and directed by Molly McGlynn, and stars Aya Cash and Sara Waisglass. The film will premiere in TIFF's Discovery program alongside Cardinals, which is also produced by Neville with Code as executive producer.
Two selection juries, each chaired by one of last year's award recipients, chose the winners from a shortlist of nominees.
