Nepal Parliament begins deliberation over Constitution Amendment proposal
By Binod Prasad Adhikari, Kathmandu [Nepal], Aug 16 : The Nepal Parliament on Wednesday started deliberations over the Constitution Amendment proposal tabled earlier.Nepal's Law Minister Yagya Bahadur Thapa put forward the amendment proposal in the parliament to start deliberations, which was approved by majority of Lawmakers.
The Second Constitution Amendment Proposal-2073 has 50 amendments on the table.
The first lawmaker to take part in the deliberation was Rewati Raman Bhandari from opposition CPN-UML (Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist).
The deliberation over the issue will continue till 20th of August followed by voting on the next day.
The doubt that still prevails over the amendment is its endorsement because the government has to garner the two-third majority for passing the bill.
But the consensus from Madhesh-based parties has raised hopes and confidence of getting the bill endorsed.
