Seven JD(S) MLAs to join Congress on Thursday
New Delhi , Aug 16 : Seven Janata Dal (Secular) JD(S) MLAs led by party legislator B. Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan are scheduled to meet Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi tomorrow here regarding joining the party.Speaking to ANI, Ahmed said, "We are all from JDS party; we left the party seven months back. Rahul Gandhi ji called us in Delhi so that he can officially announce all seven of us into his party. Tomorrow morning at 10:30 am we are meeting him as it is our official appointment day".
Further on joining the Congress, Ahmed stated that JD (S) is no longer a secular party but Congress has these factors in them.
"From the last eight months we have been planning this and finally the day has arrived. We left JD (S) because it was a secular party but does not remain to be so. That is why we are joining the Congress happily and proudly," he said.
On August 14, Ahmed said that the grand old part's vice-president had invited the seven suspended JD(S) legislators to join the Congress and they all would meet him in New Delhi on August 17.
Khan later confirmed that the seven legislators would go to Delhi with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar and KPCC President Dr G. Parameshwar.
Claiming that the Congress would win 160 seats in the 2018 Assembly elections, Khan said the BJP would not cross the 60- mark even if Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah camped in Karnataka before elections.
On JD(S) President H.D. Deve Gowda asking him to quit as party MLA, Khan said: "Gowda has no moral right to ask me to resign. I have been elected by the people and not by Gowda. He even called me Mir Sadiq. I have not cheated anyone in my life."
