Condemn Arunachali death: Kejriwal
New Delhi, Feb 1 : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday condemned the death of a Arunachal Pradesh youth, who succumbed to his injuries after being allegedly beaten up by some shopkeepers at a market in South Delhi.
"I condemn the incident. Delhi is a place for all people from all parts of the country. All of us must learn to co-exist with each other," said Kejriwal.
"I have ordered an inquiry into the incident," he said.
Meanwhile, several groups from the North-East on Saturday held protests at a market at Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi where Nido Taniam was allegedly beaten up resulting in his death.
"We want justice. Why is that we (people from North-East) are always targetted," said one of the protesters.
"We demand security for all brothers and sisters from the North-East," another protester said.
Meanwhile, Nido Taniam's cousin said they are awaiting justice.
"We have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged in the case. We want the guilty to be punished as soon as possible," he said.
The Delhi Police on Saturday said they have arrested three suspects in the case.
The three men were identified as Bhanu, Praveen and Tiku.
The Delhi Police reportedly said that they did not drop Nido Taniam, who died after being allegedly beaten up by shopkeepers, back at a Lajpat Nagar shop to be attacked again.
In what appears to be yet another violent attack on a member of the Northeast community, the 18-year-old student from Arunachal Pradesh studying in Delhi died on Thursday from beatings by several shopkeepers in a market area of Lajpat Nagar in the national capital on Wednesday evening, said reports.
Nido Taniam, had got engaged in an altercation on Wednesday with some people in the market after he was teased for his hairstyle leading to a fight.
The glass of a shop had broken leading to more violence in which the boy was mercilessly beaten up leading to his death the next day. He was found dead in his room.
Activists alleged that police apathy also caused the death since though cops came but did not rescue him. He died of internal injuries, said reports.
The victims' friends were also there when the altercation occurred. Activists said police had brokered a peace first but then did not act. The boy was asked to pay Rs 10,000/- first but then why he was again beaten and left there was not clear.
