The Indian censor board has for the very first time passed female frontal nudity and shots of bare male posteriors for Steve McQueen-helmed '12 Years a Slave' for Indian audiences.

Initially, the movie, which had bagged the Golden Globe for Best Picture Drama and has also earned nine Oscar nominations, faced six cuts, but a revising committee gave it a thumbs up without any editing, PVR Pictures reported.

Earlier, Michael Fassbender, who portrays a brutal slave owner in the film, had said that the scenes were necessary in the film because that's the reality of it and if we really want to do justice to the story of Solomon Northup, a free man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery, who are we to censor it.

The film will hit Indian theaters on January 31, 2014.
