Former Jharkhand chief minister and Jharkhand Vikash Morcha (Prajatantrik) president Babulal Marandi today said that he would not contest Assembly poll from any area of Santhal Pargana region which comprises 18 Assembly seats.

Mr Marandi, who was here to meet the injured members of Gram Pradhan Manjhi Sangathan, said that he would rather prefer to contest from any seat of Chhotanagpur area of Jharkhand.

Mr Marandi, who had represented the Dumka and Koderma LS seat for two terms each said that party had decided to contest on all the 81 Assembly seats of the state.

'I have already said that I will contest from the land of Chhotanagpur and decision regarding my seat would be taken by the party later on', Mr Marandi said.

JVM(P) which has the strength of 11 MLAs in the 82 membered, including a nominated member, Jharkhand Assembly had contested on all 14 Lok Sabha seats of the state but failed to retain its two seats Koderma and Jamshedpur represented by Mr Marandi and Ajay Kumar.

In LS elections, Mr Marandi managed 1,58,122 votes while Jharkhand Mukti Morcha supremo Shibu Soren who retained his seat had obtained 3,35,815 votes. While BJP nominee Sunil Soren who had got 2,96,785 votes was placed second.
