Two die as motorcycle collides with LPG-laden truck
Two youths were killed in an accident involving a LPG cylinder-carrying truck and motorbike, which led to a massive fire on the road, on the NH-31 in Assam's Nalbari district late last night.
Local reports said the truck, which was carrying full LPG cylinders from Guwahati to Bongaigaon, hit the motorbike at Bezkuchi Chowk, near Tihu chowk, on NH 31.
The truck was travelling on a high speed, possibly leading to the collision, eyewitnesses said. The two youths on the motorbike were killed on the spot.
The accident led to a fire in the truck and all the LPG cylinders burst one after the other, sending out bellowing fire and smoke in the air and causing panic among the locals.
Fire tenders, which reached the spot, could not immediately press into action as the cylinders exploded and flew in all directions, making it impossible to approach the burning truck.
The fire was later brought under control and the road cleared for resumption of traffic.
