Unidentified miscreants stole five idols, including three panchalohga images, from a temple at Keelapalaiyur village under Kudavasal police limits in Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu in the wee hours of today.

Police said, the authorities locked the Poorana Puskalambigai Sametha Maha Shastha Ayyanar temple as usual, last night. When they opened the temple this morning they found the locks of the front doors broken open. They immediately informed the village administrative officer, who then alerted the police.

A police team visited the temple and found three 3-feet tall panchaloga idols of Goddess shri Ganambigai, Godess Shri Puskalambigai and Lord Shri Ayyappan, each weighing about 40kg and two idols weighing about 25 kg each and of Goddess Shri Mariamman and Goddess Shri Selliamman made of bronze missing.

Police suspected that the miscreants might have broken open the front doors of the temple, gained entry and made away with the idols in the wee hours. Kudavasal police registered a case and are investigating.
