Police in Puducherry recovered a pipe bomb Wednesday near central minister V. Narayanasamy's residence, following which security was beefed up, an officer said.

"The minister's driver saw some suspicious object near the house around 8.00 or 8.30 a.m. Police were informed and the object was secured. It was a bomb and was diffused," Puducherry Director General of Police P. Kamaraj told IANS over phone.

Puducherry, a union territory, is around 160 km from here.

Kamaraj said security has been beefed up at Narayanasamy's residence, adding that no CCTV camera was installed outside the minister's residence.
