TNEB engineer held on bribery charges
Sleuths of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) wing police arrested a Junior Engineer of Tamilnadu Electricity Board (TNEB) for demanding and accepting bribe from a Civic chief at Panaiyur village, here today.
DVAC sources said the Panchayat President of Panaiyur village Mayandi (56) had approached the Junior Engineer Ramamurthy (51) for preparing a Project Report for installing 15 street lights in the village under the State-sponsored Tamilnadu Village Habitations Improvement (THAI) Scheme. The scheme envisages providing minimum infrastructure facilities to all the habitations in the State.
The TNEB officer demanded Rs 1,000 as bribe to prepare the project report. Dejected over this, the civic chief lodged a complaint with DVAC, based on which the sleuths laid a trap. Ramamurthy was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in his office by a DVAC team, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) S Ezakki Anandan. Further investigations were on.
