Lt Gen Chachra briefed about security, will visit forward areas
A detailed brief about overall security situation in the Kashmir valley and on Line of Control (LoC) was today given to Lt General Sanjiv Chachra, Northern Army Commander by senior Army officers.
Lt Gen Chachra, who arrived here on a two-day visit, called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and is scheduled to meet Governor N N Vohra.
A defence ministry spokesman Lt Colonel N N Joshi said Army Commander arrived here on two day visit to the forward areas of the Chinar Corps for deliberations on security situation and interaction with military and civil authorities.
On his arrival, Army Commander was received by Lt General Gurmit Singh, Chinar Corps Commander who briefed him on the current operational situation on LoC and internal security environment prevailing in the hinterland.
Army Commander lauded the efforts of Chinar Corps in providing environmental security during recently held parliamentary elections.
He also complimented 'Chinar Warriors' for their professionalism, steadfastness and dedication and wished them operational success in future.
During his two days visit, the Army Commander would also be visiting the LoC formations and troops deployed in the forward areas, and interacted with the officers and troops.
Lt Col Joshi said he is also scheduled to call on Mr Vohra.
The General called on Mr Abdullah and discussed the prevailing security situation and the measures being undertaken by Army towards sustained peace in the Valley.
The Army Commander is accompanied by Ms Anshul Chachra, Regional President AWWA, Northern Command.
