BJP national General Secretary Trivendra Singh Rawat today claimed that Chief Minister Harish Rawat had lost confidence of the people as MP of Haridwar and after tasting defeat in Lok Sabha polls he was looking for a ''safe seat in bypolls in Dharchula.''

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Rawat dared the chief minister to fight from Doiwala Assembly seat that falls under Haridwar Lok Sabha constituency and was represented by former BJP Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank.

Mr Nishank has won the Haridwar Lok Sabha seat by trouncing the Chief Minister" s wife Renuka Rawat in recent polls.

The BJP leader was commenting on media speculations about Mr Rawat, who has to become an assembly member by July end, considering fighting from Dharchula from where the Congress had gained good votes even in recent Lok Sabha polls.

The Chief Minister seems to have lost his confidence as well as faith in people of Haridwar, which he has represented or the people of Haridwar have lost faith in him, the BJP leader quipped.

Mr Rawat also criticised Mr Rawat" s statement seeking Rs 4,000 crore in addition to the Rs 8,000 crore disaster relief package provided by the erstwhile UPA government at the Centre.

''Mr Rawat should have patience at least till the new government takes oath before listing his demands,'' T S Rawat said.

He also stressed that before seeking more money, the Congress government should bring out a ''white paper'' on how the earlier relief fund was spent so far.

''There was massive corruption in spending the disaster relief fund and an outside third party must hold a probe into the matter,'' the BJP leader demanded.

He also asserted that the BJP would win both the Assembly seats in the by poll.
