Unidentified miscreants gained entry into a locked house and decamped with 80 souverigns of gold ornaments and a cash of Rs 2 lakhs and other valuables at Srinivasanagar in the city today.

Police said, house owner M Kannan, a private firm employee was away at hospital along with his family inmates since this morning.

They returned to home this evening and found that his house was ransacked and the steel almirahs were broken and valuables stolen, police added.

Similarly, the miscreants also broke another locked house in the same area and in this case also the house owner was away at Chennai, police added.

Mahatma Gandhi Memorical Government Hospital police has registered a case and are investigating.
