A Cabinet Sub-Committee will be set up to study the grievances of beedi workers and work out their soultions, Karnataka Minister for Labour P T Parameshwar Naik and Minister for Information Roshan Baig said today.


Speaking at a meeting convened with various Beedi Workers Union heads and members across the State, Mr Naik said that Revenue, Urban Development, Housing and Labour Department heads will be a part in the Sub-Committee to study the problems faced by the workers, including Housing, pension etc.,

The members complained, there were more than 10 lakh Beedi workers in the State and 70 per cent of them had no House and the government as well as cooperative financial institutions refused housing loans to thair as they lacked permanent jobs.

According to then there were more Muslim women in the Beedi profession and they were paid monthly pension ranging from Rs 9 to Rs 90.

It should be increased to a minimum of Rs 1000 per month and be also covered under PF facility.
