Floral tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the occasion of his 23rd death anniversary here today.


Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, his cabinet colleagues, Speaker V Sabapathy, Deputy Speaker Selvam, legislators and senior officials of the territorial administration, among others, garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at Ellapillaichavady here.

Patriotic songs were sung and 'anti-terrorism' pledge was taken at the pedestal of the statue to mark the occasion. An all religious prayer was also held on the occasion.

Former Union Minister V Narayanasamy, PCC president A V Subramanian and office-bearers of the Congress party also garlanded the statue.

Earlier, rich tributes were paid to a decorated portrait of the late leader at the PCC office here in which senior Congress leaders, including Narayanasamy and A V Subramanian participated. They took out a procession from the PCC Office to the statue carrying the portrait.
