Joint Collector Revu Mutyala Raju today directed the mining department officials to take up intensive drive to check illegal sand mining, especially in Katheru and Venkatanagaram villages in Rajahmundry rural mandal.


Presiding over the district level sand mining committee meeting here, he said no leniency would be shown towards those indulging in illegal mining of sand and besides levying of heavy penalties, the sand permits would be cancelled.

He said government had permitted the owners of patta lands that were sand cast to remove the sand for making them suitable for cultivation under GO no: 186.

However, the pattadars should apply to the mandal agricultural officer concerned who would forward the same to the district level committee through the Tahasildar after joint inspection.

The committee would issue the required sand mining permits and way bills through the assistant director mining. Only pattadar would be allowed to take up the sand mining but not others, he clarified. Further, he directed the mining department officials to take steps to immediately stop the illegal sand mining in the sand packages of Rajahmundry, Vangalapudi, Kapileswerapuram and Korumilli following the High Court directive.

Assistant Director Mining Suryachandrarao, Deputy Director ground water department Venkateswerarao, River conservator Tirumalarao, RDOs Kurmanand and Subbarao took part in the deliberations.
