The Uttar Pradesh government today decided to hike the daily wage of the scavengers engaged in the local bodies in the state and impose new tax on old vehicles and hike the penalty on crimes on the roads.


The government also authorised Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to decide on the schedule of the budget session of the UP legislature. The budget session is expected to be held next month.

The decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting here today.

The government has decided to hike the daily wage of the scavengers engaged on contract services in the local bodies.

The government has also decided to impose a new road tax on old vehicles which would be named as 'Green Tax'.

The new green tax would be imposed on those vehicles whose Road tax tenure has expired and the amount collected from the tax would be used for preservation of environment.

The government has also hiked the monetary penalty on crime on the roads. Now a fine of Rs 4000 would be for the first crime while it will increase by Rs 7500 for every crime thereafter.
