Expressing hope that National Conference (NC) will bounce back after recent debacle in the LS polls, former union minister Dr Farooq Abdullah today said the party will have to take drastic measures to come closer to common man, strengthen grassroots, alleviate issues of the youth.

The NC patron Dr Abdullah was speaking at a meeting, held to discuss the recent defeat of party candidates in all the three constituencies in the Kashmir valley.

However, a large number of NC workers staged a dharna outside the party headquarters at Nawai Subh, alleging that they were not being allowed to enter the complex and to express their view over the defeats of candidates, including Dr Abdullah who lost to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Srinagar seat.

This was the first defeat for Dr Abdullah since he started his political carrier.

The agitators said NC leaders, including minister should show some respect to grass level workers of the party.

A press release issued here this evening said Dr Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today held an extraordinary eight hour long meeting with Provincial Leadership, Ministers, MLAs, MLCs, District Presidents and Block Presidents to seek feedback on LS polls result and formulate a future course of action.

The closed-door meeting saw all District Presidents, District Secretaries and Block Presidents speak both about the local factors in their delegated areas as well as the general organisational and political factors in view of the recent Lok Sabha election results.

Dr Abdullah spoke to office bearers and assured them that NC would bounce back with passion to come up to the expectations of the common masses.

He expressed great hope and optimism in the party's strength and ability to overcome the recent debacle in a spectacular manner.

Dr Abdullah announced that the party leadership would launch a comprehensive set of organisational measures and mechanisms to constantly seek suggestions and alleviate the grievances of the party cadre and office-bearers.

In this connection it was announced that the Party President will be present at the NC Headquarters in Srinagar two days a week to meet party workers and office bearers.
