Three labourers -- including a couple -- engaged under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Balod District's Daundilohara Block, were buried alive and four critically injured when a mound of earth caved in today, police said.


The mishap occurred when about 50 MGNREGS workers were digging for the Bhendi village Panchayat road project. The deceased were identified as Komal Singh and his wife Basanti besides Jagobai, all of whom hailed from Bhendi.

Chief Minister Raman Singh, who was in New Delhi, directed district authorities to provide emergency relief of Rs 25,000 each to the families of the dead.
