BJP objects to closing of official Twitter account of PMO
The BJP today strongly objected to the closing of the official Twitter account of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and said the account was an ''institutional handle'' and should continue.
''Isn't @PMOIndia for communication from the Prime Minister's Office? An institutional handle which should continue seamlessly. Surprised,'' BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said on Twitter.
However, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's former Communication Advisor Pankaj Pachauri said all the official communications from the office of outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were being ''archived'' under the RTI Act. He said Copyrights and control remained with the office. ''An advisory-All our official communications are being archived according to the RTI Act. Copyrights and control remain with the office,'' Mr Pachauri tweeted.
Later, Pachauri clarified that @PMOIndia was an office account and the office continued to manage it.
''More clarification: This is an office account and the office continues to manage it. The handover is being facilitated,''Mr Pachauri tweeted.
The PMO, after the election results were announced, described its Twitter Account as ''@PMOIndiaArchive''.
It said archival material under the RTI Act for @PMOIndia till May 20 (today) @PMOIndia would be available shortly.
Mr Pachauri had also described himself as ''former'' Communication Advisor to outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Having worked for 30 years in media, newspapers, magazine, radio, TV and internet, it was ''time for a break,'' it added.
