Haryana Agriculture Department has destroyed saathi (early paddy) cultivated on 5.5 acres of land at Village Janesaro-depot in Indri, district Karnal, under the Haryana Preservation of Subsoil Water Act, 2009.


To save water and improve the ground water level, the agriculture department has launched a campaign and destroyed summer paddy or saathi variety, also known as water guzzling variety, spokesperson for the department said.

Under the Haryana Preservation of Subsoil Water Act, 2009, paddy could not be sown before May 15 and it could not be planted before June 15 in the State.

There is a provision to initiate a legal action against the violator and imposing a fine of 10,000 per hectare for three consecutive months.

Also, there is a provision to charge the cost of destroying sown and planted paddy from the guilty farmer.
