A couple from the district got married in a unique manner by donating blood and organising a donation camp.


For M C Lankesh and Y S Sunitha, who got married at Raitha Sabhangana of Bangalore-Mysore highway here yesterday, the event was an opportunity to do something good for society.

The couple made the ceremony unique by organising a blood donation camp at the venue. They inaugurated the camp by donating blood themselves.

Sixty others too donated blood in the camp. The blood bank of Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences collected the blood. While Lankesh is a social worker, Sunitha teaches as a quest guest faculty at the Government College for Women on Bangalore-Mysore highway here. They belong to Mangala village in the taluk.

The couple also gifted copies of 'Mantra Mangalya', a book written by K V Puttappa (Kuvempu), and saplings to friends and relatives who attended the wedding.

Lankesh, who has donated blood 35 times, was seen asking guests to donate blood, instead of bringing him gifts.

H L Nagaraju, Administrative Officer of Mysore Medical College M Sundar, superintendent of Mandya Sub-Jail, Social Welfare Department officer Venkataravana Reddy, Nehru Yuva Kendra officer Siddaramappa, besides their guests and relatives of the couple appreciated their noble gesture.
