As many as 186 or 34 per cent Parliamentarian who have been elected for 16th Lok Sabha have criminal background, was been analysed by Association for Democratic Reforsm (ADR) India.


Releasing the detail of 541 winner who had been elected for recently Lok Sabha the organisation says that Parliamentrian with such background is gone up by two per cent as compared to 158 in 15th Lok Sabha. Joint analysis of National Election Watch (NEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 541 winners out of 543 winners in the Lok Sabha 2014 Elections and revealed this.

Party wise MPs with Criminal Cases are 98 (35 pc) of BJP, 8 (18 pc) INC, 6 (16 pc) of AIADMK, 15 (83 pc) Shiv Sena and 7 (21 pc) of Trinmool Congress.

ADR claimed that 112 (20pc) have been charged with serious criminal cases like murder, attempt murder, communal disharmony, kidnapping, crime against women etc. but their number has gone by five percent as it was only 77 Parliamentarian (15 pc) in last LS.

Sixty three MPs (22 pc) of BJP are charge for serious crime. 3 (7%) of Congress, 3 (8pc) of AIADMK, 8 (44 pc) of Sena and 4 (12 pc) Trinmool Congress, respectively. In their election affidavit submitted before election commission nine have declared that they were facing murder charges including 4 of BJP, 1 eachof INC, LJP, RJD, Swabhimani Paksha and independent. Those who were charged under sec. 307 are 17 including 10 of BJP, 2 of Trinmol Congress one each of INC, NCP, RJD, Shiv Sena and Swabhimani Paksha.

Two Members are also being charged in crime against women including one of BJP and an Independent. Ahir Hansraj Gangaram of BJP from Chandrapur constituency, Maharashtra charged under Sec 366 for Kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage etc.

Sixteen have been accused of communal disharmony including 12 of BJP and one each of TRS, Pattali Makkal Katchi, All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen and AIUDF.

Ten of them were charged for Robbery and Dacoity including 7 of BJP, 1 one of RJD, Swabhimani Paksha and an Independent. Seven have charges Kidnapping, three of BJP, 1 each of Trinmol Congress, LJP, RJD and Independent.

The Agency claimed that winnability of candidates with criminal background is 13 pc in Lok Sabha while for clean record candidate it is just 5 per cent.

It also claimed that records of two MPs could not analysed as the scan copy of their affidavit is unclear or incomplete uploaded on the ECI website.
