Four, including three of family, killed in cylinder blast
Four people, including three members of a family, were killed and six others injured in a cylinder explosion at Maraimalainagar, about 50 km from here, last night.
Police said one Venkatesh, who runs a fast food shop, has just returned from his native Panruti, along with his wife Tiripurasundari and seven-year-old daughter Aishwarya, when the tragedy occurred.
He had stocked a few LPG cylinders in his house before proceeding to his native place.
When he opened the door and switched on the lights, a spark from the switch, triggered the explosion following a gas leak.
In the explosion, which shook the entire area, Venkatesh, his wife and daughter were killed on the spot.
The explosion was such that a 11-year-old girl, who is the daughter of Venkatesh's neighbour, was also killed in the blast.
Six others were injured and were rushed to the hospital, where the condition of two of them was said to be critical. The house was badly damaged in the cylinder blast.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and took up investigation.
