Police have filed a criminal case against Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) Vice Chancellor Mrs Kalyani Mathivanan and six others in connection with an alleged attack on Prof A Srinivasan (67), Convener of "Save MKU Coalition."

Police said today based on a complaint lodged by Mr Srinivasan, the Nagamalai Pudukottai Police have filed First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 307 (attempt to Murder), 294 (b) (Recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words in or near any public place) and 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) read with 109 (Punishment of abetment) of the Indian Penal Code against Mrs.Kalyani Mathivanan, Registrar (Incharge) of varsity A Muthumanickam, Head of Department of Youth Welfare P.Chelladurai, Public Relations Officer (Incharge) Arivazhagan, retired MKU employee SVK Selvaraj and two unidentified goons.

Dr.Srinivasan, a retired Professor of MKU who floated the Save MKU Coalition to highlight the administration lapses in the varsity was attacked by two goons on Friday last. Srinivasan suffered multiple fractures in both arms in the attack. The Coalition alleged that the attack was premeditated and instigated by the VC, as it was demanding action against the VC for alleged irregularities in administration. The goons allegedly warned Dr.Srinivasan not to act against Mrs Kalyani Mathivanan.

Meanwhile, a section of faculty members, students and scholars have decided to stage a protest in front of the District Collector Office tomorrow to condemn the attack on Dr Srinivasan and demanding stern action against the perpetrators.
