PM designate Modi meets Advani, other BJP leaders to discuss Govt formation
The Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi today held discussions with veteran BJP leader L K Advani and other party leaders regarding Government formation.
Mr Modi held discussions with Mr Advani at the latter's residence. Mr Modi will also pay a visit to former Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee.
The PM designate is also expected to meet BJP president Rajnath Singh and other party leaders to finalise names for his Cabinet. He is also scheduled to visit the Delhi office of the Rashtriya Swayamsewal Sangh at Jhandewala where he is expected to meet RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
A meeting with BJP's ally in its national alliance Ram Vilas Paswan is also expected later in the day.
Sources said the discussions are being held amid reports that the BJP leadership is to deliberate on the role Mr Advani will play in Mr Modi's regime.
The sources say Mr Advani, who was the BJP's prime ministerial candidate in 2009, wants to be Lok Sabha Speaker.
Among others who Mr Modi met during the day included Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio and former Karnataka chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa. BJP general secretary Dharmendra Pradhan who has charge of Bihar, too met Mr Modi. This meeting has significance in view of the political developments in the state, where chief minister Nitish Kumar resigned yesterday owning 'moral responsibility' for his party's rout in the general elections.
The BJP has won 31. Mr Modi's chief aide Amit Shah was with him at Gujarat Bhawan till some time ago.
On Tuesday, the 282 new BJP members of Parliament will elect Mr Modi their leader and he will be sworn-in as Prime Minister on a date to be decided.
