Cong workers blocked traffic to protest police inaction
More than 250 Congress workers from various parts of district Moga today blocked road traffic at Baghapurana resulting in complete blockade of traffic from Baghapurana to Kotkapura, Muktsar, Mudki, Faridkot and Firozepur, Baghapurana to Moga and Nihalsingh wala, Barnala.
Congress leaders under the leadership of Darshan Singh Brar were protesting the police inaction in arresting the accused of a murder attempt on Roop Singh, a Congress worker who was seriously injured when some armed persons attacked on the night of May 6. The case was registered on the complaint of Baldev Kaur wife of Roop Singh who was referred to PGI Chandigarh in a precarious condition after removing his leg shots at Baghapurana civil hospital.
This incident was the result of clash between Akali activists and Congress activists at Sangatpura village of baghapurana subdivision on polling day where one Jaswinde Singh son of SGPC member Gurmel Singh Sangatpura was seriously injured.
Sunil Jakhar leader of opposition and Congress candidate from Firozepur Lok Sabha seat alongwith one dozen congress leaders waited upon Punjab DGP Suresh Arora on May 7 and demanded impartial probe into the incident of April 30 and urged for quick police action to arrest the accused of May 6 Sangatpura violence.
Darshan Singh Brar District Congress committee president while addressing the Congress activists warned the police administration to its inaction to nab the accused who assaulted Congress leader Roop singh.
