A police officer was today suspended from service for his alleged role in the death of a woman at Changaramkulam police station in Malappuram district three weeks ago.

Following an official report, Kuttippuram sub-inspecter Manorahan was suspended on directions from Thrissur range inspector general of police, Gopinathan.

According to the report, Manoharan mentally harassed K K Anisha, (23), by dragging her into a theft case.

The torture prompted the victim to commit suicide inside the rest room of the station on April 24.

A cleaning worker at a private hospital at Kottakkal, Aneesha, of Maloor, near Edappal, was arrested by the police in connection with the theft of gold ornaments and an ATM card belonging to another woman bus passenger.

Aneesha was found hanging from the ceiling fan of the police station the following day.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala who had visited the station yesterday accused the policemen of the station of dereliction of duty.

Offering a probe by the Crime Branch into the incident, he said next of kin of the victim would given adequate compensation.
