Pakistani troops fire at Indian posts in Kashmir
Pakistani troops resorted to "unprovoked firing" at Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, the military said Sunday.
The firing took place in Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district Saturday night, defence ministry spokesman Col. Manish Mehta told IANS.
The Pakistani firing began at 10.35 p.m. at Nangi Tikri battalion area. "No damage or casualty has been reported on our side," the official said.
The violation of the 2003 India-Pakistan ceasefire in the region came on a day the Indian Army killed two separatist guerrillas in Poonch district and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
The seized material included two AK-47 rifles, 240 rounds of ammunition, eight AK-47 magazines, a grenade launcher, three grenades, a claymore mine and two detonators.
In the past 10 days, Pakistani troops have thrice violated the bilateral ceasefire on the LoC.
Army and intelligence officials allege that Pakistani troops fire along the LoC to give cover to armed guerrillas trying to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan.
