Protests against female doctor's murder
Protests against the alleged murder of a female doctor Sarita Tasniwal in Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) at Assam's Dibrugarh town yesterday, rocked the AMCH and Sivsagar, the hometown of the slain doctor.
As Dr Sarita's body reached her home in Sivsagar town this morning, a pall of gloom descended on the town. All shops closed shutters as a mark of protest.
The local units of the AASU and Bengali Students Federation staged protests in Sivsagar and submitted memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
Junior doctors and students of AMCH continued to stage protests in the hospital campus at Dibrugarh.
They demanded action against the culprits and security for the medicos in the hospital.
The 26-year-old a post-graduate student of AMCH, was found with her throat slit open on a bed of ICU in AMCH yesterday morning.
A ward boy, Kiru Mech, has been arrested in the case and has reportedly confessed to the crime.
