The Dalit Atyachar Virodhi Kruthi Samiti (DAVKS) would hold a rally on May 15, to protest against the recent incidents of crime against Dalits.

A joint action committee comprising various Dalit faction leaders will participate in the rally, which will be taken out from Kranthi Chowk En route Paithan Gate and Gulmandi, culminating at Divisional Commissioner's Office, where the leaders will submit a memorandum to Divisional Commiisoner Sanjiv Jaiswal, said Gautam Kharat, organiser of the Kruthi Samiti.

Citing examples of crime against Dalits, Mr Kharat said, "recently, a 17-year-old Dalit youth Nitin Aaghe was allegedly murdered and hung from a tree over his love affair with a minor girl hailing from upper community at Kharda village in Ahmednagar district."

He added that several cases of crimes against the Dalits in Jalna and Aurangabad district have also reported. Besides organising the rally, the Samiti plans to observe a protest week, if the government fails to accept their demands.

During that, they will resort to rasta roko, rail roko and jail bharo andolan, he said.

"The Samiti has demanded that state Home Minister RR Patil should step down for failure of his Home department to protect Dalits from such crimes against them. Dalit people staying in sensitive areas should be provided protection,' he added.
