Heavy rain damages AP crops, affect train traffic
Heavy downpour for more than an hour last night, caused substantial crop loss while train traffic disrupted in Vijayawada railway station, as tracks inundated with rain water.
The heavy downpour accompanied by gales and thunders created a havoc for crops in Krishna Guntur and West Godavari districts. All the main roads inundated in two feet water in the city, resulting in, the normal crippled for about three hours last night. As the rain water inundated the tracks in the railway station, the interlinking system got affected forcing authorities to detain some of the trains at various places.
However, the train movement restored sometime later. The entire city plunged in dark as power went off for more than two hours last night. In Guntur district, chilli, maize and paddy crops in thousands of acres got damaged.
In Krishna district thousands of tonnes of paddy, which was brought to the Mailavaram market yard, got drenched in the rain water. The heavy rain in Nuzvid region, which is famous for mango crop was the woret affected as several mango trees uprooted.
Mangoes fell from the tree due to heavy gales farmers said.
In West Godavari district, the Rabi paddy crop being harvested in thousands of acres, got damaged.
Hundreds of coconut and palm oil trees were uprooted due to heavy winds in the district. The officials were assessing the loss of crop, revenue officials said.
