Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi holds road show in Varanasi
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today held a five-kilometer long road show in the temple city of Varanasi on the last day of campaigning where polling will be take place on May 12.
Rahul Gandhi's road show comes in a reply from the Congress, to what BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi did in Amethi, on the last day of campaigning.
The Congress leader roadshow started from Pili Kothi in the city and Mr Gandhi along with other leaders stood up on an open vehicle seeking support for the party candidate Ajay Rai against Narendra Modi and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal .
Mr Gandhi waving to the people and even holding their hands was welcomed by flower petals and shouting slogans. He was accompanied by party candidate Ajay Rai along with other senior leaders including Gulam Nabi Azad, Pramod Tiwari and Madhusudan Mistri.
Mr Mistri is the Congress candidate against Mr Modi from Vadadora seat in Gujarat.
Thousands of people thronged the roads to have a glimpse of the Congress leader and the SPG personnel protecting Mr Gandhi had a hard time to save the leader from the volley of flowers and garlands thrown at Rahul Gandhi during the road show. Band parties also welcomed the Congress leaders at different places. The road show started at Gol Gadda went past through Chetganj, Beniabagh, Gudaulia and Assighat and ended at Sonarpura due to short of time. Earlier the roadshow was to end at Lanka in front of BHU gate.
Authorities had given four hour for the Congress roadshow from 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs but the roadshow took off at around 0900 hours and due to show speed it could cover up to Sonarpura area till the deadline.
