BJP vice-president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh today condemned the Congress for hitting BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi over his caste.

''Frustrated with the loss they could see in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has lost its mental balance and thus was making such unethical charges,'' he said.

Giving details about the caste of Mr Modi, Mr Singh said he belongs to ' Modh-Ghanchi' caste which was included in the index 91(A) of Gujarat survey after the Mandal Commission. Modh Ghanchi caste and 105 other castes were included in the OBC category way back in July 1994 when Congress was in power in Gujarat.

''The Congress was just interested in caste politics as people have rejected them as they have also discarded the issue of development and other problems of the people,'' he said.

He also claimed that the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party in UP too have lost hope in the elections. ''The two parties are only doing two things-- first Muslim appeasement and second, trying to stop Mr Modi from becoming the PM. But they have failed as people have known the real motive of these two parties,'' he added.

Mr Singh demanded that the Election Commission deploy central forces in all the booths going to poll on May 12.

''SP goons are preparing to rig the polls in a big way in Azamgarh, Ghosi, Lalganj and Ghazipur this time like they did in Ferozabad,Kannauj, Badaun and Farrukhabad elections with EC turning into a helpless body,'' he stated.
