Air Customs officials seized 100 gms of smuggled gold valued at Rs 40 lakhs from an abondoned parcel near an aero bridge of Tiger Airways flight which, arrived here from Singapore today.


Acting on a tip off that a passenger of tiger Air lines flight from Singapore was bring a large quantity of of gold, the air customs officials thoroughchecked all the passengers of who arrived from Singapore, but could not find anything.

When they went to the aircraft, they found an abondoned parcel near the aerobridge and examined it. They found the smuggled gold inside the parcel.

They closely watched the video recordings in the close circuit television network of the passengers who arrived, and those who had crossed the customs counter. They suspected a youth and detained him for interrogation.

The passenger A John Mohammed (28) of Chennai during the interrogation, admitted that he had brought the gold and out of fear he threw it near the aerobridge.

He was arrested and further investigation was underway, the sources added.
