Six people, including four women, were killed and 23 others injured in four differenmt road accidents in Pudukkottai, Tiruchirapalli and Thanjavur districts of Tamil Nadu since yesterday.

Three women were killed on the spot and 17 others injured when a mini-lorry in which they were travelling overturned in the middle of the road near Seethapatti Village of Pudukkottai District on the Viralimalai-Manaparai Highway, near here, today.

A group of villagers hailing from Velur near Viralimalai were on their way to attend a condolence at Ananthanur village when the accident occurred. The reason for the accident was under investigation.

The deceased were identified as K Alagammal (65), E Perumayee (50) and P Thailammai (52) of Velur Village.

The injured were admitted to Government Hospital,Manaparai where the condition of a woman said to be serious, police added.

In an another accident, one person was killed and six injured in a road accident in which a van and a lorry collided at Kurukkai Agaram Section Road under Siruganur Police Limits on the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai National Highway in Tiruchirapalli District early today.

Police said, the deceased was identified as lorry cleaner A Purushothaman (30) of Chennai.

The injured were admitted to a private hospital near Siruganur and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital at Tiruchirapalli.

Police took into custody van driver Santhoshkumar of Chennai and are investigating.

In a third accident, a 35-year-old man was killed when he accidentally fell from a borewell drilling lorry at Tiruchirapalli late last night. MORE UNI RV RSA SB2128 NNNN NNNN

He was rushed to a private hospital at Tiruchirapalli where he succumbed to his injuries this morning. Police said the deceased was identified as Prithivirajan (35) of Thiruthuraipoondi of Tiruvarur District of Tamil


In the fourth accident, a teenaged girl padayatra devotee was killed when she was hit by a speeding truck on the Palliagraharam Bypass Road in Thanjavur District yesterday.

Police said a group of padayatra devotes from Kottur in Tiruvarur District was on way to Samayapuram Mariamman Temple when the accident occurred.

The injured N Thilagavathi (18), who was admitted to Government Medical College Hospital at Thanjavur, succumbed to her injuries this morning, police added.
