Maoists burnt an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and a jeep in the agency area OF the district here today, during the polling for second phase of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.


According to a Senior Police Official, a group of Maoists burnt the EVM and a vehicle at Palakagidi of Koyyuru Mandal in the district before fleeing.

Following this incident, re-polling has been ordered at the polling station.

The movement of action teams of Maoists was being watched by the police in the district, he said.

An estimated 69 per cent voter turnout was recorded by 1800 hrs in the Port City.

There was high turnout in the North Coastal districts of Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Region.
