CPI urges Governor to instruct to purchase soaked crops
The Communist Party of India (CPI) Andhra Pradesh State Council Secretary Dr Narayana today urged Governor ESL Narasimhan to instruct to purchase soaked grains, chillies, maize and mangoes through marketing federation.
In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, copy of which was released to media here, Dr Narayana said in recent period unseasonal rains occurred in Telangana area--Khammam, Warangal, Nalgonda, parts of Medak District and Nizamabad.
Due to the untimely rains paddy crops, Mangoes, Mirchi (Chillies), Maize farmers incurred heavy loss. Now with the elections, farmers could not get agricultural labourers for cutting the ripped crop. Chillies were soaked in rainy water. Unripe mangoes have fallen on the ground.
As farmers are not getting remunerative price for their produce due to price rise of inputs, these natural calamities added fuel to the fire.
Since three years, unseasonal rains are spoiling the crops but compensation is not being paid to farmers. Hence compensation must be paid with retrospective effect, Dr Narayana stated in his memorandum.
