Jaya lashes out atEC for ordering belated re-poll in 2 booths
AIADMK Supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today strongly objected to the Election Commission (EC) decision to hold repoll in two polling stations and said this belated and inexplicable action appears to be against the canons of propriety of the election process.
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, copies of which were released to the media here, she said the EC had ordered repolling in two stations at Salem and Namakkal Parliamentary Constituencies tomorrow.
While 77.61 per cent polling was recorded in Polling Sation Number 213 in Salem, it was 80.26 per cent in the Polling Station 37 of Namakkal.
Stating that polling for the 39 Parliamentary Constituencies in Tamil Nadu was completed on April 24, she said all the EVMs have been kept in safe custody as per the guidelines of the ECI.
"When this is so, it is most surprising that the ECI has, after a long gap of 12 days, suddenly ordered a re-poll in two Polling Stations of the State", she added.
