A notice has been served to Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati for her objectionable remarks against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav during her public meeting here on May 3.

The Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Azamgarh served the notice to the BSP chief yesterday and directed her to reply within 24 hours.

During her public meeting in Azamgarh, from where Mulayam Singh Yadav is one of the candidates, Mayawati had alleged that Mr Yadav was contesting from the constituency just to appease his second wife and upon winning, he will vacate the seat for his second son Prateek Yadav.

Mr Yadav is contesting from both Mainpuri and Azamgarh seats. While polling for Mainpuri was held on April 24, Azamgarh will go to polls on May 12.

Yesterday, Ram Gopal Yadav, brother of Mulayam Singh, had announced that Mulayam will not vacate Azamgarh.
