Forest officials today arrested a poacher, and were looking for two more, for allegedly killing a wild boar at Pannal village near Kodiayakarai wildlife sanctuary in Nagapattinam district.

Forest department sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of Forest officials rushed to the spot and found that one Pandiyan (41) of Chiruthaliakadu and three others were attempting to cut open the meat from the dead boar at Pannal forest area.

The officials arrested Pandiyan. However, two of his associates managed to escape with a gun, said to be used for hunting the boar.

The arrested was produced before the Judicial Magistrate Vedharanyam, who remanded him to 15 days judicial custody.

Later, the carcass of the animal was burined in nearby forest area.

The forest officials registered a case.
