The outgoing Drug Technical, Advisory Board (DTAB) received the Leadership in Animal Welfare Award for its exemplary support in improving the standard of animal welfare in the country.

Humane Society International/India conferred the award and out of 18-members in the Advisory Board, two members -- Dr C.Gopalakrishna Reddy and Dr B P S Reddy, CMD, Hetero Drugs Pvt Limited belong to Hyderabad ,according to a release here today.

The award specifically recognised India's Director General of Health Services and Drug Controller General Dr G N Singh, under whose leadership the board approved the ban on animal testing for cosmetics. He also recommended a ban on the import of cosmetics tested on animals and recommended the restriction on the manufacture and sale of oxytocin. The DTAB finished its three year term last week.

HSI-India's Be Cruelty-Free Campaign Manager, Alokparna Sengupta, said, "We applaud the outgoing Drug Technical Advisory Board for setting a golden standard for the incoming DTAB and commend them for their compassion towards animal welfare and foresightedness in ensuring animal safety."

Be Cruelty-Free India is part of the largest campaign in the world to end cosmetics animal testing. Globally, Humane Society International and its Be Cruelty-Free partners are also leading the charge to end cosmetics animal testing in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Korea, New Zealand, Russia and beyond.

In the United States, Be Cruelty Free is led by The Humane Society of the United States, the release added.
