There are around 5 lakh blind people in Kerala and the Government is planning to implement a comprehensive project for the empowerment of blind.

Official sources today said the project is aimed at bringing blind to the mainstream of the society. Scientific technologies would also be used for empowering blind.

Speaking at a meeting of Centre for Assistive Technologies here recently, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the Government has taken steps in this regard by replicating the model from Europe and America.

He said the Government would extend all possible help for the financial and mental empowerment of the blind. Admitting that there are around five lakh blind people in the state, he said a major portion of them are devoid from education and job.
