The 24th meeting of ICAR Regional Committee (Region VIII), comprising Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Lakshadweep, was inaugurated by Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit at the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute here today.


This biannual meeting is expected to discuss and review the current status of agricultural research, education and extension education to take decisions on the various problems faced by the region either in the execution of the approved programmes or in tackling the emergent problems and identify gaps for research by Agricultural University/ICAR institutes or in transfer of known technology by extension agencies, a press release said.

The meeting will also analyse, discuss in depth and make recommendations on the location specific problems peculiar to the region. Around 150 delegates, Vice-Chancellors, Directors of Research, Directors of Extension Education and Deans of the SAUs, Directors of ICAR Institutes, Project Coordinators and Heads of ICAR Regional/Research Centres and officials of the development departments of agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries and forestry from the region, besides high ranking officials from ICAR-New Delhi are participating in this event.

During the occasion, CTCRI Director Dr S K Chakrabani received the an ISO Certification obtained by CTCRI.
