Former Union Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, who was one of the staunch votaries of integrated state, joined BJP in the presence of party's PM nominee Narendra Modi at an election meeting, held in Bhimavaram town of West Godavari district, today.


Speaking at the meeting, Mr Rao, criticising congress president Sonia Gandhi, said that not only the kings and queens were eligible for Prime Minister post, but also the common man like Mr Modi.

Lauding Mr Modi, the former Union Minister, who was a four-time MP and also industrialist, said that Mr Modi had grown individually on his own to this position.

He had grown from such a low level of a tea vender to the prime ministrial candidate.

Mr Rao joining BJP, is big blow to the Congress party in the region, where a number of senior leaders including five-time MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, two-time MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, former Minister K Parthasarathi, MPs Harsha Kumar, V Arun Kumar had already quit Congress.
