Huge gold haul in Calicut
In a major haul, five kg of gold worth Rs 15 million was seized from two passengers from the Middle East by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Calicut International Airport near here today.
Sources said the DRI sleuths on a tip-off, seized four kg gold from Mohammadali, native of Koduvalli in the district and one kg from Riyaz of Payyannur in neighbouring Kannur district.
Both the passengers from a Gulf country arrived by an Emirates flight this morning.
All the three international airports in Kerala have been witnessing a spurt in gold smuggling since the Centre tightened norms for import of the yellow metal into the country.
