2 arrested for demanding extortion from money exchanger
The Phagwara Police have arrested two members of a gang under section 384/511/506 of IPC for allegedly demanding extortion money from a local money exchanger.
Phagwara SP Gurswak Singh Brar said the arrested accused had been identified as Jatinder Singh of Gali Number 4 Satnampura Phagwara and his accomplice Mohammad Dildar of Village Pharala near Behram in District Nawanshahar.
Brar told this reporter that the arrested Jatinder was in deep financial crisis due to loss in business and was known to money exchanger Mahinder Pal Shukla.
He admitted that after watching a hindi movie, he hatched a conspiracy to extort huge amount of Rs 20 lakh from Shukla.
SHO City Sarwan Singh Bal who made hard efforts to uncover the crime told that first Jatinder snatched a mobile from a person near Garhshankar, then made a phone call to Shukla from the snatched mobile and demanded Rs 20 lakh as extortion. He then sent SMS from another mobile to Shukla who informed he police.
The SHO disclosed that Jatinder was nabbed near Toll Plaza Behram and Mohammad Dildar from his residence in village Pharala. The police has recovered two mobile phones and six sim cards from the arrested accused and the bike number PB-10BA-1495 on which Jatinder was riding has also been impounded.
SP Brar claimed that they admitted to have demanded the extortion money from the money exchanger. The arrested accused were produced before local judicial magistrate who sent them in police remand for further interrogation.
