An unidentified male who was seriously injured was among the names released by the Railway authorities after a young woman died and 12 others injured following twin-blasts in Bangalore-Guwahati express at Chennai Central this morning.


The dead woman had been identified as Swati (24) who was going from Bangalore to Vijayawada to reach her hometown Guntur in Andhra Pradesh thereafter.

The two persons who sustained serious injuries were an unidentified male and Sumantho Devnath (37).

The others who sustained minor injuries, which included a woman, were Uma (35), Shaiful Haque (27), Anjanedu (29), Vimal Kumar Das (43), Shagun Kumar Rai (23), Altaf Khan (17), Jitendra Mohanto Deka (58), Sari (21), Murali (27), Bijoy Kumar (14), Sudanchand Debnath (64) and Surendra Varma (31).

The twin blasts caused by low intensity bombs shook two sleeper bogies S4 and S5 in the middle of the train.

Railway minister Mallilkarjun Kharge announced a compensation of Rs one lakh to the family of the dead young woman, Rs 25,000 to seriously injured and Rs 5,000 to persons who sustained minor injuries.

The train had since began its onward journey after the affected coaches were removed and two different sleeper coaches were attached, railway sources here said.
