The Election Commission today censured and served last warning to Union Steel Minister and Congress candidate from Gonda seat in Uttar Pradesh Beni Prasad Verma for his 'derogatory' remarks against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

The EC in its strict order, issued by Principal Secretary R K Srivastava, also threatened the Congress Working Committee member that further violation could result in banning him from future poll campaigning.

The Commission has expressed its displeasure and warned the leader to be careful in future, as this was the second notice of warning served to him for violation of model code of conduct.

"Whereas, the Commission has viewed his repeated violations of MCC with deep concern. Now, therefore, the commission, without prejudice to any other order/notice issued or to be issued in the matter relating to MCC violation by him, hereby, condemns the impugned statements made by Beni Prasad Verma ,as aforesaid and censures him for the said misconduct. If another such incident was reported then EC would be forced to restrict him from holding any campaigning ," the order said.
