Leaders of various political parties in Tamil Nadu, including Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and DMK President M Karunanidhi, condemned the twin blasts on board the Guwahati-Bangalore Superfast Express that left one dead and 14 injured, even as the State Government ordered a CB-CID probe into the incident.

In a statement here, Ms Jayalalithaa said she has directed the CB-CID to conduct a thorough probe along with the Government Railway Police Force, arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.

Appealing to the people not to panic following the blasts, Ms Jayalalithaa allayed their fears and said the police department was taking all security measures in the state.

Condoling the death of Swati (24), a native of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh and travelling to Vijayawada from Bangalore, Ms Jayalalithaa conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and announced an assistance of Rs one lakh from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.

She also announced assistance to all the 14 injured and said she had directed the hospital authorities to provide the best of treatment to them for their speedy recovery.
